Becoming a Member of this Fine Art Doll Gallery

Questions You May Have About Becoming a Member of a Gallery

What does becoming a gallery member mean?
By becoming a member of this fine art doll gallery, your art would be showcased continuously on the web. There would be no need for you to develop your own web site, undertake the monthly expense of a web server, or hire anyone else to tend to all the technical details of designing, promoting and maintaining the site for you.

Who should consider being represented by a gallery?
Serious doll artists must concentrate their creative efforts on their art and the many other aspects of their businesses. They often have no spare time to learn a new and constantly changing technical language, the HyperText Markup Language. Web design is a demanding job. Many hours are put into creating the components for a site, maintaining the site, constantly refreshing the site, submitting the site to search engines, advertising the site and promoting the site. Those who consider advertising their dolls, participating in shows or promoting their art should also consider the 24 hour a day, world wide presence of a web site. The WWW is likely the most cost effective way to have your work seen by the largest targeted audience.

Are there other advantages of joining this gallery?
The web server that hosts TheArtistDoll.com boasts a 99% uptime. Rarely would your customer or visitor using a proper URL get an annoying Not Found error. Having your work on a site that is online consistently also means that search engines won't be repeatedly dropping you from their listings.

A business domain name will take priority over homepage addresses in search engine returns. Certain URLs are automatically classified as "homepages," assuring low ranking and fewer visitors.

Each gallery member is given individualized attention from planning their presentation, to securing personalized businesslike email addresses, notification of guestbook comments, to frequent updates.

The web designer is responsive to artists' suggestions and is an artist, understanding the importance of presenting works of art in the best possible light. Response to your email is fast, usually within 24 hours. While sales of your artwork cannot be guaranteed, your satisfaction with your presentation on the web site is guaranteed or your money will be refunded.

Shopping carts are available even if you have no charge card merchant account. Prices of your doll inventory, commissions, sideline products and services of the artists are promoted including classes, public appearances, and show schedules.

How do I submit my work for review?
If you have images online, in another site, at PhotoPoint, or a similar online album, send the URL (page address) only. Your work will be visited and considered. Afterward photographs should be reviewed. It may be possible to utilize your digital images; however, more accurate information may be shown in regular photographic prints.

If you do not have online images send photographic samples of your fine art dolls for review, only by mail with a SASE for your photos' return. Please use a durable photo mailer.

*Note:  File attachments via email will not be accepted without prior permission. If you are requested to send email file attachments, you will receive specific instructions and a specific email address. Questions not covered here are welcomed by email, snail mail or phone. 9 to 5 Eastern time.

What does it cost to belong to the gallery?
The gallery will not take orders, does not stock inventory, nor will it take commissions for sales on consignment. Web design prices are determined by the specific work to be done for each artist, how much space they wish to have, the number of images they wish to include in the gallery and for other needs and services. Prices are available by request and start at $100.00 US, (a one-time charge) for a single page with one large image, including scanning. Prices for additional interior pages, displaying additional images, scanning, email, monthly membership, and services can be obtained via email or by phone. Monthly membership fees apply according to the number of pages and updates needed for the artist's section of the site. Prices are subject to change.

What are the benefits of gallery membership as opposed to owning an individual site?
As part of a prestigious fine art doll collective, your work will be more easily found by your clients, collectors, gallery agents, art doll dealers and search engines. Representation by a fine art publisher brings attention to your dolls and is more respected than having a homepage style presentation.

I have been a member of the gallery since 1998. My gallery site section is Lauren Alexander Teacup Faeries. I think this is one of the best looking sites I have seen and am always proud when a visitor signs our guestbook and confirms this. The gallery has been a valuable asset to my business.

The presence of work by professionals known worldwide for their dolls will bring to your dolls the attention of collectors who likely would never have found your independent site.

Being a member of an online gallery with many members means that the dolls shown on the site will refresh more frequently than on an individual site. Change and variety are paramount to a successful web site. Links to major doll organizations, web rings and participation by National Institute of American Doll Artist members, NIADA, American Artist Doll Association members, AADA, and masters of the art of the doll bring new and repeat visitors to TheArtistDoll's site.

The new fomat on TheArtistDoll is working for me and is wonderful! I had a contact today that confims my theory that all marketing ties my exposure together with the website being the contact point. Selling through shops or galleries I usually never know who has bought which piece. I find it special to know who has aquired one of my works. And it is rewarding to know should a customer want to contact me, that I can be found.
